Themes

AFRIW – meaning “wing” in Berber – was founded to lend wings to those who need them most and to help them spread their wings. Our mission is to protect, empower, and amplify the voices of individuals and communities facing injustice and discrimination.

Human rights and social justice are at the heart of everything we do. They guide our vision, shape our actions, and define how we work with the communities we serve. We believe that every person deserves to live with dignity, safety, and equality—free from discrimination, violence, and fear.

At AFRIW, we see human rights not as abstract principles, but as everyday realities that must be protected, practised, and promoted. Our commitment to social justice drives us to challenge systemic inequalities and to stand with those whose voices are often unheard.

Across all our focus areas, we work to build inclusive, resilient societies where human rights are not only recognised but actively realised.

Our Focus Areas:

Empowering Women and Girls
We design and support educational, social, and leadership programmes to strengthen the role of women* and girls* in political, social, and cultural life, especially from marginalised and minority backgrounds. Our initiatives include advocacy, training, and opportunities to participate in peacebuilding, policy-making, and public dialogue.

International Humanitarian Law and Peacebuilding
AFRIW promotes awareness of international humanitarian law and supports efforts to prevent and resolve conflict through inclusive, peaceful means. We engage in initiatives that highlight the protection of civilians, the role of women in peace processes, and the importance of justice, dialogue, and accountability in building sustainable peace.

Cultural, Social and Economic Rights
We work to advance equal access to education, culture, healthcare, and decent living conditions for all. AFRIW advocates for policies that address inequality and social exclusion, ensuring that every person can fully participate in social, cultural, and economic life with dignity and opportunity.

Labour Rights and Protection from Exploitation
AFRIW is committed to combating labour exploitation and human trafficking. We engage in initiatives that uphold the rights and dignity of vulnerable workers, regardless of gender or status, and promote fair working conditions, legal protections, and access to support systems.

Migration and Asylum
We advocate for the protection of migrants, refugees, and displaced persons, recognising migration as a human experience shaped by inequality, conflict, and hope. Our work focuses on raising awareness of rights in migration contexts, promoting humane asylum policies, and fostering inclusive societies that respect diversity and solidarity.

Supporting Civil Society
We believe that strong, independent NGOs are vital for lasting social change. AFRIW is building a support platform for small and grassroots organizations, offering knowledge-sharing, networking, and capacity-building to help amplify their impact.
