AFRIW—meaning “wing” in Berber—was founded to lend wings to those who need them most and to help them spread their wings. Our mission is to protect, empower, and amplify the voices of individuals and communities facing injustice and discrimination.

Our Focus Areas:

  • Empowering Women and Girls
We design and support educational, social, and leadership programmes to strengthen the role of women* and girls* in political, social, and cultural life, especially from marginalised and minority backgrounds. Our initiatives include advocacy, training, and opportunities to participate in peacebuilding, policy-making, and public dialogue.
  • Feminist Foreign Policy & Peacebuilding
We promote a feminist approach to foreign policy, recognising gender equity and equal participation as essential foundations for peace and security. AFRIW advances women’s leadership in peace and conflict studies, supporting inclusive mediation and negotiation efforts.
  • Human Rights & Social Justice
Our work extends to the defense of fundamental rights for all—especially those from minority and marginalized groups. We document and raise awareness about human rights violations, support survivors, and advocate for fair treatment and equal opportunity worldwide.
  • Labour Rights & Protection from Exploitation
AFRIW is committed to combating labour exploitation and human trafficking. We engage in initiatives that uphold the rights and dignity of vulnerable workers, regardless of gender, and promote legal protections and support systems.
  • Supporting Civil Society
We believe that strong, independent NGOs are vital for lasting social change. AFRIW is building a support platform for small and grassroots organizations—offering knowledge-sharing, networking, and capacity-building to help amplify their impact.
